AN EXHIBITION BY CHERYL WHEELER
“Perfect Imperfections”
Artist statment
I have learned through my new works of art to accept, with more grace, things I can not change.
Nothing is perfect.
This experience and my curiosity has led me to explore a new way of approaching the canvas.
Flowing colors suddenly create magic and a new art form is born in me. It is time to share my enthusiasm, ideas, and meanings of the work.
Color “Story”
Each piece has a color “story”.
Whit cobalt blue, teal, ultramarine, brilliant golds, viridian greens, shimmering copper, and snow whites, I focused on our beloved mother earth for eight of the canvases.
I’m seeing a lot of spirit creatures in these canvases, as well as a lot faces.
Welcome
Welcome to Perfectly Imperfect, my show. This show has been in the works for the entire season. Acrylic paints on canvas are what you see today. Each one is made up of layers of paint conditioners that allow for flow and form. Moving away from realism and toward a free-flowing style of painting on canvas has allowed me to express myself more freely.

In the 22 years that I’ve been working in my mixed media studio, this body of work is what I am most proud of. Because there’s so much to see and find, pushing the lines creates shapes has allowed me to create works of art that will fascinate throughout all of life’s challenges.
